I like to handspin and handye yarn. This time I handspun a white merino wool tops then after plying I dyed it with pinks & purples. I fancied trying something different so I gave this simple crochet method a go. It creates a great rib, no increasing/decreasing and you can turn the bottom up to create a brim. All it needs now is a fluffy pompom! I will be adding some similar yarns in my Etsy shop over the next few weeks. 👀
To try to keep on top of all things creative here at Patchouli People HQ I want to introduce a weekly photo collage (created using POTO app). I have listed my new Orbifolia hand dyed 4ply and Lace weight yarns in my Etsy shop. I’m really loving the look of my Latvian inspired mittens on my DPN needles using my own hand dyed 4ply yarns now I can see the main body pattern emerging. On the next row from left to right I handspun a length of hand dyed wool tops (Cheviot) it’s a beautiful pastel colour! I was busy Warping up my little Ashford Sample loom, which I can highly recommend for a handspun scarf project, it is quite affordable. The last photo is of a scarf I took off the floor loom that includes Alpaca, linen and various wools on a Rosepath tie up.
What creative endeavours have you got up to in 2017? 🦄
I’ve been starting the year off with lots of spinning, I’m hoping to try using it on my chunky knitting machine. There’s a couple more hanks I haven’t got pictures yet to share but next time I sure will! Evenings are filled with hot tea and continuing with my colourwork mittens. Do you split your time between crafts/projects throughout the week or week to week? or focus on one until finished? I find it depends on my energy levels 🌈
I was so pleased with the colours on this thick & thin yarn I dyed so I knitted it up on some huge 25mm knitting needles I have. It feels quite awkward to knit with such large needles after spending some time with the 2-3mm. The advantage is that it is relatively quick to knit. I gifted this at Christmas to my partner but the weather has yet to drop enough to warrant him wearing it (though I have been wearing Woolies for weeks now).
